In August, my family experienced a great trip to Norway and, bonus, visited the country for about half of what we planned to spend visiting California!
As I looked up tickets to California, I discovered that round-trip flights from Jacksonville to Sacramento were $1000 each.

With careful planning and an open mind, you can spend a week just about anywhere that’s new to you, learn a lot about that country and its culture, and still have a great time.

Delightful as the capitals are, a traveler could come away from any one of them and not have much idea what life is like for most people in that country. Here are some reasons you should trade in big city time for smaller cities and towns.

We were destined to end up somewhere unusual.

My parents are incredibly adventurous and are at home wherever they are in the world. My mother is a retired cookbook author and culinary instructor who, because of her talents in all things food related, often spent time in Italy. For many years, she, along with my father, and groups of friends and family, rented villas in Tuscany and Umbria.
