I’m so glad you askeD...

Where will I fly into and out of?

You will fly into Cape Town and out of Johannesburg. United Airlines has direct flights to both from New York and Delta has direct flights from Atlanta. If you’d like to combine this trip with a European stop, many airlines fly directly from Europe to South Africa. On our first group call we’ll cover flights in detail, but if you’d like help, Marion at Odyssey Travel can book your flights for a $100 fee.

What will our lodging be?

We will stay in 4-5 star hotels in Cape Town and Victoria Falls. Lodging in Kruger will be two nights in the national park in classic private bungalows with en-suite bathrooms, and two nights in a sanctuary style five star luxury lodge.

How will we get to the different game parks?

While many safaris use coaches to transport guests between locales, we are committed to prioritizing your comfort and maximizing your time. Because of that we will be taking direct intra-continental flights - Cape Town to Kruger then Kruger to Johannesburg, or for the add-on, Kruger to Victoria Falls then Victoria Falls back to Johannesburg. These flights are included in the cost of your trip.

Is it safe?

While all travel comes with some risk, Americans are flocking to South Africa in record numbers. We have selected our destinations as they are not only spectacular, but are among the safest in Southern Africa.

What are the medical requirements for the trip?

All guests should have at least a moderate degree of physical mobility/ability. Both Kruger and Victoria Falls are malarial zones, and although it is optional, we recommend taking anti-malaria medication. You should be fully up to date on your vaccines.

And, please know we are only an email away if you have any additional questions.

What if I want to spend time in Johannesburg?

Johannesburg is a vibrant city with much to offer, but unfortunately, it doesn’t fit into our schedule. We will end in Johannesburg however, so if you’d like to add on to the trip I am happy to provide suggestions, or to connect you with our travel agent.

US and most EU citizens don't need a visa. Please ensure that your passport will have two blank pages and won't expire before May 2026.

Do I need a visa?

Heather grew up in South Africa and immigrated to the States as a teenager. Her family were dedicated wildlife enthusiasts, and she spent her happiest childhood days on safari. She has returned many times over the years to visit family and friends.

She helped found a South African non-profit in 2008 and took large, mostly medical, teams there for many years. The organization was taken over by a world class South African organization in 2014.

Heather still has strong ties to South Africa and can’t wait to share this incredible place with you!
